On May 28 at Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), Chapter 73 President, Betty Shackelford dedicated the Confederate Iron Cross to honor the grateful recognition of noble service by James G. Norman, 7th Virginia Infantry, Company B.
Norman's military service brought him three wounds on the fields of battle: first, July 21, 1861, 1st Battle of kjanassas, wounded in neck; second, June 30, 1862, Frayser's Farm, shot in foot; and third, December 1862, Battle of Fredericksburg, Wounded in the face.
The UDC President Reminded all of the noble deeds of this Confederate hero and of the continuing need for Unselfish service.
Those attending this ceremony included four granddaughters, Sallie Hawkins of Culpeper, Margaret Burke and Lou Fortune of Front Royal and Josephine Woods of Arlington. Others attending included re-enactors of the 7th Virginia Infantry, Carpenters Artillery Battery, Hazelwood 5/
