of President James Madison in Orange County, was being put up for sale at the time of the vandalism and a number of realtors had been asked to come by and look at it in the weeks prior to the vandalism.
In fact, one realtor had been there on May 15 during the day, showing the property and is believed to be the last known person to have been there until the vandalism was discovered on May 20.
Many Rappahannock County citizens and several organizations have pledged money for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the destruction of the mansion, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.
