Korea and Vietnam wars then in Panama ahd New York when he retired.

He attended Epworth Fellowship Church in Laurel, Del. He was a Baptist. He was involved ir the Prison Fellowship Ministry at Sussex Correctional Institution in Sussex County, Del. and also at Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover, Md. He served as a barber and Santa Claus in these institutions. He worked for the Sussex County School System. He enjoyed farming and traveling.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Helen Smoot of 16 years; three sons, Dennis Smoot of Maryland and twins, Thomas O'Stein of Delaware and Darryl Smoot of Stafford; three daughters, Kim Cammisa of Maryland, Alice Shockley of Delaware and Kathy Knouse of New York; three step-sons, Dan Bengel of Pennsylvania, Mark Bengel of Maine and Steve Bengel of Delaware; 11 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
