Donal Logue stars as Dex, an overweight part-time kindergarten teacher with an uncanny way with women. A self-described, "big, fat, pig", he covers his paunch with Hawaiian shirts and spends his off-hours drinking and smoking, shooting pool and explaining his successful method of seduction to his buddies.
Dex has a system, blending the philosophies of Martin Heidegger, Laotzu and Groucho Marx with a coolness based on Steve MQueen. Improbably, it works and the ladies just melt.
Until Dex meets Syd, that is. Or rather, meets her again, at their tenth high school reunion. Syd (Greer Goodman) is now an opera set-designer, attractive, brainy, and fun.
Smitten, Dex tries all his wiles, but to no avail. Firsttime director, Jenniphr Goodman, co-wrote the sparkling and funny script with her sister Greer and Duncan North, the real-life inspiration for Dex's character. For his portrayal of Dex, Donal won the Outstanding Performance Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
