Winds that reached 50 and 60 miles gales ripped through the county all day Monday, tearing down trees, breaking telephone and power lines and frightening those who tried to travel and those who stayed indoors. Most of the county was without electric power from about 10 o'clock in the morning to 4 in the afternoon, and the telephones were out most of the day. One hundred and twenty-two pupils at Rappahannock High School held perfect attendance records for the months of September, October and November. Sperryville School's perfect attendance records showed 160 pupils listed. The Rappahannock Garden Club is helping to beautify the grounds at the VFW Hall in Sperryville by planting flowering shrubs and evergreens. Anyone interested and having anything to contribute should call Mrs. John R. Revercomb, Sperryville 3737. William Haaker, director of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, has contracted a disease well-known around the county. He and Mrs. Haaker have fallen in love with Rappahannock’s scenic beauty and they are making it possible for the county to have a student colony of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra established here in the beautiful . mountains. Mr. Haaker was in the county, three days early this week and visited possible sites for the location of a music colony His ideas included the possibilities of using a barn, or some similar building, where rehearsals and concerts could be held.
