Ragged Mountain activities set
The Ragged Mountain Resource Center will be coordinating the following activities in December 2000:
Saturday, Dec. 9: Second Saturday Hike Series. Destination - Hazel Mountain and Hazel River Headwaters. Meet at Mountainside Market on US 211, west of Sperryville 987-9100, between 8-8:30 a.m. and caravan from there. Return mid-afternoon. Bring food and water for self and layered clothing according to the weather of the day. Fee: Donations welcome. Hike leader: Hunt Harris. 540-987-3366.
Saturday, Dec. 9: Moonlight Hike of Old Rag Mountain. Meet at Mountainside Market on US 211 west of Sperryville. 987-9100 by 5 p.m. or at upper lot of Old Rag on Nethers side off Route. 231 by 5:45 p.m. Bring food and liquid for self and layered clothing according to the weather. Return time ??? Fee: Donations welcome. Hike Leader: Hunt (987-3366). Not an adventure for whiners or those who think they are in shape but are not really!
Ragged Mountain Resource Center will also be coordinating clean-ups of older dump sites and other events into the next year, such as: Native Planting Programs; Surveys of damage and health in the SNP after recent fires; Surveys of older, notable trees; Establishment of a Quick Response Citizen Task Force, and much more.
A call to artists
The Middle Street Gallery, a non-profit artists' cooperative in Washington is planning their 2000 Holidays show focusing on the art of gift giving. The show will run through the month of December. "We are excited about having work by new artists as well as those who have shown with us before," said an organizer. Submitted work will be juried by gallery members.
There will be no fee. A 40 percent (30 percent for members) gallery commission will be deducted from all sales. There is no limit to the number of pieces submitted, but keep in mind that this show focuses on holiday gifts. The Middle Street Gallery reserves^tje right to reject any work not meeting its standards. Required erttry forms are available by calling 675-2355. Leave name, address and a form will be mailed to you. Forms can also be picked ufV'Dy stopping by the gallery.
Christmas craft show planned
The 11th annual Christmas Craft Show will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 9 am. until 3 p.m.at Grace Miller Elementary School at Bealeton. Featured attractions include, pictures with Santa, poinsettia sale, 50/50 raffle, door prizes, kids craft corner, entertainment, lunch and crafters. For more information call Peggy at 540-439-1272.
