candy all year. We didn’t have electric lights, so we popped corn and would make long strings. We would use a needle and thread and what we didn't eat, we would add to the string. When we were through we thought it looked beautiful.
The mantel was decorated with spruce and red berries gathered from by the creek. We also had a section from a small tree limb that had three holes cut out for red candles.
Every Christmas Eve we would put a box under the tree with our name on it. Naturally we had to go to bed early so Santa would come. We were all much too excited to go to sleep, so we would lay there and whisper, so we could not be heard.
No matter what we got, it was always the "Best" Christmas ever, and I still hold on to all the memories. You miss the ones gone and a tear may come to your eyes, but you are so thankful for the wonderful childhood that was given to you. If there was hard times, we never knew it because our home was filled with love.
