Weather dealt another cancellation to high school athletics on Friday, Jan. 5. School was canceled that day, along with all extracurricular activities involving the school and its students.
One of victims was the girls' volleyball trip to Manassas Park for a game on Friday night. However, the weather may not have been the severest blow to sports that week.
The Madison County Mountaineers basketball team rolled in here the first day after the holiday break and soundly handled the panthers a punishing defeat.

The Madison Mountaineers were red-hot Tuesday, Jan. 2 when they came to the RCHS gym. Junior guard Matt Bures led the Mountaineers with 22 points, including sinking six of nine shots from outside the three-point arc. Madisons squad was ten for sixteen from three-point land.
Long range shooting by the opposition wasn't the only thing that hurt the Panthers on Tuesday night. The game started poorly for the RCHS squad when they could not break the Mountaineer press.
Six straight times the Rapp guards turned the ball over and gave up six lay-ups to the Madison County team who converted on every opportunity. A late first quarter lead by Madison of 31 to 6 was too much ground for the Panthers to overcome.
The final score was 102 to 42 in favor of the Mountaineers. Senior Chris Fletcher’s 12 points led the Rapp squad that night. The JV game was closer, but slipped away at the end and the JV squad from Madison left here with a 51 to 39 win.
The Junior Panthers basketball team went into the New Year with their first victory fresh in their minds. On Friday, Dec. 29 Wakefield School of The Plains came to the RCHS gym with their eighth grade boys.
The Jr. Panthers were poised and ready to secure their first victory. Eighth grader, Monte Christian was too tough inside for the Wakefield team to stop and scored a game high twenty-six points as the Jr. Panthers won 49 to 29. Eighth grader Ethan Berry and seventh grader Jason Jenkins each contributed nine points for the Rapp
