Subcommittee members Brion Patterson, Reed Gillespie and Beth Scott presented the results of the committee's findings and their recommendations regarding continuing accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The Subcommittee was charged with the investigation into the benefit of continued SACS accreditation on a recommendation of the School Board, after significant objection was raised, by faculty and parents, to the earlier recommendations of an accreditation team led by RCES teacher Amy Saxon. The Saxon team concluded that there was no real benefit to continuing with SACS, especially in light of the Virginia state accreditation and, at that time, RCES faculty voted to recommend dropping SACS while RCHS faculty voted to further investigate the issue.
In contrast to the Saxon findings, the Faculty Subcommittee found it beneficial to continue with SACS, based upon interviews with a far larger sampling of colleges and upon nearly unanimous votes of the RCHS faculty. The School Board accepted the findings of the subcommittee, but had already moved to continue with SACS, and no further action was required.
