The newest School Board Humber, John Wesley Mills of the Jackson District, was elected Chairman of the Rappahannock County School Board by a vote of three to two. Mr. Mills had served as an appointed member of the Board for the latter half of 2000, replacing Rebecca Cordani after her resignation last summer, arid won a special election last November for a term on the School Board starting in 2001.
Mr. Mills was nominated by Stonewall-Hawthome District member, Franklin Warner, and Was opposed by last year's chair, Rosa Crocker of the Wakefield District, who was nominated by Hampton representative Rose Ann Sharp. Mr. Mills received affirmative votes from Mr. Warner, Aileen Johnson (Piedmont District), and voted for himself, giving him the requisite votes to take the chairmanship.
After the election of chairman, Mr. Mills presided over the balance of the meeting.
Mr. Warner nominated Mrs. Johnson for an additional tern ris Vice-Chairman, and she was elected unonnosed.
