The Rappahannock County Library Board of Trustees selected officers for 2001 at its first meeting of the year. Last year's Vice President Charlotte Nichols was named President, Hallee Morgan was elected Vice-Present, Peter Little was returned as Secretary and, in the absence of other nominees, John McCarthy agreed to serve as Treasurer.
After the conclusion of the elections and other organizational issues, President Nichols reported that the Board had received a letter from former library employee and new mother, Ellen Pullen, who asked that the Board consider installation of baby changing stations in the rest rooms. Mr. McCarthy agreed to inv<£? tigate the cost of so doing, and will report findings to the Board at its next meeting.
Library Director David Shaffer reported that the library received an anonymous donation of $1000 to be used to acquire classical music CD's. He also noted that he has analyzed Internet station activity, and found that for approximately four hours per day both stations are in use and have additional patrons waiting.
Mr. Shaffer suggested that the library is now ready to accept the offer of the Friends of the Library for two additional stations, and he will look into the beet means of locating and setting up additional stations. ... Director Shaffer reported that the front door needs to be replaced, and that the locksmith suggested replacing the double doors with a larger single door. He reported, too, that the boiler is in need of repair, and an estimate of $840 had been received. Mr. McCarthy suggested going ahead with boiler repairs, and successfully forwarded a motion to that effect.
Mary Hutchinson-Brown reported on the library's finances, noting that' $46,188.81 had been expended through'* December of 2000, against income of, $82,862.62 for the same period. Hm Library Fund balance at the end of2000 is $314,441.48. * ,
Volunteer Jerry Ochs reported an progress in automating the library's accounts, and suggested that the library • purchase its own copy ofQuickbooksaothat the process could be completed.
