It was a busy week for Panther teams as 13 Panther teams saw action, mostly against Bull Run District opponents.
The Junior Panthers started things off for RCHS teams on a high note and the Varsity Wrestlers finished the week on a high note, but there was lots of struggling in between.
Basketball
On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Clarke County Eagles flew into the RCHS for the second game of the series. The Eagles had beaten the Panthers 81-47 up in Berryville and the Rapp squad was hoping to change that here. The game was tight in the first quarter as both teams pressured hard with their defenses.
The quarter ended with Clarke on top 8 to 5. The second quarter saw Clarke’s press take its toll on the Panther's offense as turnovers resulted in 7 lay-ups for the Eagles and 27 second quarter points.
Although the Panthers outscored the Eagles in the second half 34-31, they had given the Clarke Count team too big of a first half lead. The game ended with Clarke on top 67-52. Senior Chris Fletcher had another productive night and led the RCHS team with 20 points.
The Junior Varsity squad led the Clarke County JV 11-7 at the end of their first quarter. They couldn't keep up the intensity, however, and fell to the JV Eagles 48-33. Sophomore Gregg Jackson had 13 points for the JV Panthers.
