Flint Hill resident Betsy Welk, junior at Rappahannock County High School has been selected to be a People to People Student Ambassador.
This program was founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 as part of the U.S. State Department. The People to People program is a prestigious worldwide effort to bring together citizens and work together to bring peace. Since 1963, the Student Ambassador Program has helped prepare thousands of young people for their roles as responsible adults.
Through this program Ms. Welk will learn leadership skills, goal setting, planning, decision making, problem solving, and teamwork.
The Student Ambassador Program will be taking Ms. Welk to Europe this summer for 21 days. She will be visiting Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France where she will represent America's young people along with several other teens from the Washington metropolitan area.
During this time she will tour the Louvre museum experiencing the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and the French Crown Jewels. Also, while in Paris, she will visit the Palace of Versailles and the Hall of Mirrors.
