oremost is the safety concern, Route 522 and US 211 have schools along their edges: Wakefield County Day School along Route 522 north of Flint Hill and Rappahannock County's Elementary School and High School along US 211.
School buses, parents driving kids to and from school, and teenagers inexperienced with dealing with large trucks, should not be forced to mix things up with 40-ton tractor-trailers.
A second safety concern. Route 522 coming down from Chester Gap is steep and curving. A farm vehicle on that roadway is no match for a big rig. Tractor-trailers may be expected to fan out to the fastest route through Rappahannock County, whether that is Route 522, US 211, Route 231, or Route 729. * Farm' vehicles - will be found on most of these roads. On a straight-away, a tractortrailer traveling 60 mph, spotting a farm tractor 300 feet ahead traveling 10 mph, will be only seven feet away in four seconds. Driver fatigue, inattention, or a distraction might contribute to such slow reaction time or non-recognition. The result? A dead farmer.
A third safety concern. Traffic trailer trucks do not mix well with village life. Mothers with small children, the elderly, in fact all pedestrians in Flint Hill, Sperryville, Woodville, and to some degree Amissville, will be at risk to life and limb in walking aloPg the roadways of their village. The same applies to tourists visiting shops in the villages.
