The Rappahannock News was purchased this week, a century after its founding in 1877, by a newspaper group headed by news executive Arthur W. Arundel of The Plains. The move was announced jointly by The Fauquier Publishing Company, which has published the News since 1972, and by the Warrenton Printing & Publishing Company, now owner of the Rappahannock News and the Fauquier Democrat. The News also will now be affiliated with the Loudoun Times-Mirror in Leesburg, and the Reston Times in Reston, both owned by Arundel Communications. The format of the News has changed with this edition from a tabloid to a broad sheet format, as it was when it was founded ip 1877 and until changed to a tabloid in 1972.
A mountain trail ride was held Sunday at J.W. Fletcher’s Montpelier near Sperryville. About 40 motorcyclists from Rappahannock, Fauquier and Culpeper counties took part in the three-hour tour, which covered the Rappahannock Hunt territory. Following the scenic mountain ride, the guests retired to Montpelier for a brief celebration.
Ruby Faye Dunn of Washington was graduated this month from Piedmont Technical Education Center School of Practical Nursing. She attended Rappahannock School and took part time instruction at Piedmont until her graduation from RCHS in 1976. Miss Dunn is the first Rappahannock student to complete the practical nursing course at Piedmont.
