In this season of graduations, the Culpeper National League of Junior Cotillions announces its graduates and those from Rappahannock attaining the honor include: Lakota Coon of Castleton; James Gardner of Washington; Windham Lucking of Sperryville, Christopher Oliver and Natalie Smith, both of Boston.
The graduates were presented at the annual Cotillion spring ball, themed “An Oriental Evening”, held in the Aberdeen Bam ballroom. At their Oriental-style, five-course dinner they enjoyed formal service, including crumbing of the tables and finger bowls with mint and lemon. The menu, created by Chef Ted Visikides, from authentic Asian cuisine, included sesame roll with egg-drop soup, mandarin orange wedges with almond slivers, terriaki chicken with stir-fry vegetables and steamed rice, moon pea and crab salad, and to conclude their sumptuous meal, a dessert of red bean cake in orange sauce.
Dr. David Cox and Mr. James Allen helped the director, Gail Turnbull of Viewtown, to honor Mrs. Jane Pollard, who won the “Best Mannered Teacher of the Year” award, after which graduates were presented their diplomas to close the evening.
