Junior Panthers
It was quite a week for middle school sports as five Junior Panther games were played against all four Fauquier County Middle schools in two sports. On Tuesday, April 23 the firstyear, Rapp softball team was handed a pretty one-sided defeat at the hands of the Taylor MS girls. Seventh grader, Rebecca Tupper took the mound in the team’s first home game. She was a little shaky, walking 9 in her first home appearance, but she recorded 8 strikeouts along the way. The Junior Panther bats were silent however, as they only got one hit and fell 10 to 1 to the Taylor team.
The next night the little Panthers hosted the 8th grade team from Warrenton MS. Seventh grader, Christina Naramore got the first home win for the Junior Panthers giving up five hits and striking out 7 on her way to a 23 to 7 victory. Naramore helped her cause with two hits on offense, as did another fine young player, sixth grader, Noel Johns, who collected four of the Panther’s six hits that afternoon. Finally, the week came to a close with an exciting game played on the varsity field against the Cedar Lee MS girls. Naramore lost a tough one after the Junior Panthers had raced out to a 6 to 0 lead. She gave up only 3 hits in her teams 8 to 7 defeat and suffered the loss as a result of some costly fielding misplays by the Panther side.
On Tuesday, April 23 the Junior Panther boys’ soccer team traveled to Bealeton to face the Cedar Lee Middle School squad. The team played extremely well with the starting 11 controlling the game completely and building 4 to 0 first half lead. Carlos Flores scored twice and Alex Ramey and Dugald Day each added a goal for the little Panthers. Alex Ramey would score again in the second half but not before Cedar Lee would scratch their way back into the game and force a tie at the finish. The final was 5 to 5 and the JP’s will have to wait until May 6 to face Cedar Lee again.
The next game for the guys was on Friday, when they traveled to Marshall Middle School for another away game. The little Panthers started slow and found themselves down 3 to 0 halfway through the first half. They scored two goals in the second half, but just came up a goal short and lost 3 to 2.
