On all issues, it will defend individual rights and will support k existing laws while advocating * better ones. This newspaper will * also be a conscience to those in public office. We will not seek controversy, nor will we avoid it. Freedom of the press is the bulwark of civil and religious liberty and one of the most precious legacies left us in the messy w'orld beyond us.

Growth in the next 25 years here will probably be greater than in all the combined history of Rappahannock County. But these changes must not be permitted to happen at the price of destroying this county’s beauty, natural heritage and its farm industry. It is a future which may lie beyond our vision, but does not lie entirely beyond our control.
