An absolutely terrific movie, “A Beautiful Mind” is based in part on Sylvia Nasar’s book by the same name. It makes vivid the turmoil in the brain of a troubled genius, Nobel Prize-winning math theorist John Forbes Nash Jr. and does so with beautiful simplicity.
Winner this year of an Oscar for Best Film, it is showing at The Theatre on Gay Street, Washington on Friday, May 3, at 8 p.m.
Nash, played by Russell Crowe, is a West Virginia man with no elite education who finds himself among the Haves at Princeton. To his colleagues, he’s a social misfit, a complete hick. But they underestimate his brain power and his will. Seeking out original ideas rather than wasting time attending classes, Nash hits upon his theory one night at a bar.
