All spring teams saw plenty of action last week and there were some exciting outcomes. Tuesday, April 23 was a banner day as five of six Varsity and JV RCHS teams defeated neighboring Madison teams in three sports. - Baseball split their games last week and Varsity softball remained undefeated. The soccer teams split in their contests and the track teams continued to develop their squads as they aim for the district tournament in mid-May. Five Junior Panther contests occurred last week and that’s a,record for middle school competition in any single week of the school’s history. - Baseball
Tuesday, April 23 .brought the Bull Run District’s second place Madison team into the Panther den. The guys were r^adv and beat up the Mountaineers like they owned them. The game only went five innings as the Panthers blasted the Madison pitchers for 15 runs. Senior Zach Ashby went ? X 4 at the plate, including tris first and the school’s first borne run out of the new fields behind the elementary school. It was the first district win for the Varsity team and it was a bug one. Meanwhile the JV boys were away at Madison aldministering the same rjledicine to the Mountaineer JV squad. Eighth grader, Xander Sharp pitched seven t£>ugh innings without a walk gmd together with some solid panther defense, got the win in a convincing 8 to 2 victory. > Unfortunately, success was 4iort lived as the Panther tjaseball squads teamed up ^rith Double “AA” Warren County in a non-district contest last Thursday. The panther varsity hit the ball >fell, with junior’s Mike Weise and Ryan Brown going 2X2 at the plate. On the defensive ^Jde, the Rapp pitching staff couldn’t cool down the Wildcat bats as the Warren County team collected 17 hits on their way to a 13 to 4 victory over the Panthers. The JV team vjas on the road, playing the Warren County JV at Bing Crosby Field in Front Royal, the result was the same, as the varsity as the JV team fell 10 to 0 in their game. •• Softball 1 The Varsity Lady Panthers posted the always-dangerous jiady Mountaineers from Madison County on Tuesday, April 23. It was another good game as junior Rachel Sharp drove in two of the three runs she would need to secure this victory. Offensive spark plug, sjenior Gwen Johnson, got on base every time and scored all three of the Panther runs. The final was Rapp 3 and Madison 5. The win was big and Secured a first or second place flnish for the Lady Panthers in Jhe district. '< The JV girls traveled to Aladison that day and were equally successful over the JV Mountaineers. Sophomore Brittany Thornhill got the win and collected two of her teams $ hits as the JV team defeated die Madison squad by the £nal score of 10 to 2. % On Thursday, April 25 the &irls locked horns with traditional, non-district opponent Uuray High School.
