center when the shipping facility moved to the building now occupied by the Appetite Repair Shop. It has been an antique shop, outlet store and offices “I think the building has found its true calling now,” exclaims Zylonis. “It’s the perfect pot shop!”
Classes and workshops are an essential part of Zylonis’s business plan. “I’m very flexible about teaching,” she explains. “I have scheduled a series of four classes for Saturday mornings and have several weekend long intensive workshops on the books. But I can work with anyone’s schedule and if someone wants to get their own group together or wants private lessons, I’ll gladly accommodate them.”
With her enthusiasm and outgoing personality, Zylonis has a special gift for teaching children, immediately putting them at ease and engaging them in the basics of making pots. She has a summer pottery camp for children ages 6-12 scheduled for June 24-28 and another session slated for Aug. 5-9. She has plans to offer pottery classes to local schools and the home school community.
“One of the best things about potting classes is that they don’t have to be a traditional teacher/student experience,” says Zylonis. “Recently a group of women got together for a special birthday party. They brought in their dinner, refreshments, birthday cake and all and really enjoyed themselves while learning how to throw pots. We didn’t leave until after midnight!”
Zylonis says she encourages people to think out of the box when it comes to pottery classes, “I can work with Rae’s Place or Epicurious Cow to put together a “pottery party” where friends can enjoy living, learning and great food.”
