A former student at Rappahannock High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Who’s Who in American High School Students and member of the track team.
Survivors include his mother, Sherron Proper of Washington; his adopted father, John Proper of Washington; his father, Erhard Wingert of Tellico Plains. Tenn; three sisters, Eve Proper and Shiloh Proper, both of Castleton and Elizabeth Proper of Washington; two brothers, Jeremy Proper of Castleton and James Proper of Washington; his maternal grandmother, Bessie Grigsby of Sperryville and paternal grandmother, Hilriegard Foerstmann of Florida.
