Rappahannock Youth Soccer League played its fourth weekend of games on Saturday. April 27.
The Rapp U-8 Blue Panthers traveled to Madison and faced a determined team.
The brothers O'Heir (Speedy and Michael) helped the mighty panthers pull out a victory.
The U-8 Red Rockets played Rickie Shaw’s team at RCES. It was a great game, featuring two teams from Rappahannock. A.J. Sargent got his first goal and played very well. Lauren Light also got a goal and made several key stops on defense.
First year head coach Tony “C” Caporuscio’s U-10 Terminators played Madison at RCES. Several players scored numerous goals but the excitement peaked when James White scored his first U-10 goal!
A tremendous team effort was put forth by the U-10 Dragons, as they faced an evenly matched opponent in the Culpeper 3 team. Battling back from a 3-1 deficit in the second half, Rappahannock turned their play up a notch to log a 43 victory. Strong offensive play by Dane Wellemeyer, Connor Foley (1 goal), and Jacob Racer (3 goals), coupled with “nerves of steel” defense by Patrick Lysaught and Christopher Cooper, proved to be a winning combination.
U-10 Girls
The U-10 girls, the Rapp Hurricanes, lost 3-2 to Madison in an incredible game. Madison scored three quick goals on momentary defensive miscues. It looked bad for the Hurricanes but even in this early part of the game they were spread out, passing and attacking. The girls kept their cool and opened the second half with a score by Marcella Wallace. Isabel Eastham and Joslyn Smith were relentless in their pressure on goal and then Meredith Reeve punched in our second goal.
Meanwhile, Taylor Light had stepped in at goalie and was making stop after stop. Morgan Flournoy was clearing balls out of our penalty box with her aggressive play. Kendra Settle, who has an incredible ability to spot the open person and pass, was distributing the ball through the midfield. Sarah Wheatley and Sarah Hazel were playing everywhere with the aggressive style that is the Hurricanes trademark. No ball went uncontested. We had won the ball and were breaking away from midfield to tie the score when the final whistle blew.
U-12 Co-ed
Rapp’s U-12 co-ed team, the Red Menace, played Orange U12 co-ed team 5. Our team played with great spirit and pinpoint passing to defeat the Orange team 7-1. Jack Coon
