Ken Peplowski and Chuck Kedd will be joined by a to-be-announced bassist at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia on Saturday, May 11 at 8 p.m. for another in the highly popular jazz concerts at that venue.
Peplowski, the celebrated reedman, will play clarinet and tenor sax. Redd will bring the vibes and drums for which he is famous. Because of possible scheduling conflicts, the name of the bass player will not be announced until closer to concert time.
Hot off the press just last month and available at the Theatre will be Chuck Redd’s latest CD “All This and Heaven Too,” on the Arbors label. The CD also features Gene Bertoncini, the guitarist who will be returning to the Theatre for a concert next September, and George Mraz on bass.
On select cuts, the CD features Ken Peplow ski. The jazz critic of The New York Post says of this recording, “Timeless music! An album to prove wrong those who say, “They don’t make ’em like that any more.” Marian McPartland has praised it for Redd’s “lightly swinging vibes,” arid commented that the intimate group “pulsates with life and the joy of playing.”
Redd first came to the Theatre with the late famous guitarist Charlie Byrd, with whom he was closely associated for 19 years. He has played drums with several other great guitarists also, including Herb Ellis and Barney Kessel. Playing vibes, Redd worked periodically from
