Barbara Clark Wayland, who served the people of Rappahannock County with distinction and devotion as the manager and editor of the Rappahannock News, died April 16 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 49.
Mrs. Wayland was born at home in Rappahannock — a fact of which she was justly proud — to a farming family with deep roots in the county.
She attended public schools here, and graduated from Rappahannock County High School in 1971.
Her first grade teacher, Miss Mary Jenkins, of Washington, was her special, life-long friend, and over the years was a welcome daily visitor to her office
