her 40s and earned a bachelor of fine arts at George Washington University in Washington, D C.
While she first studied silkscreen printmaking and oil painting, she later took a watercolor course and fell in love with what has since become her favorite medium. She also broadened her love of traveling during three-week graduate-level painting seminars in Brittany, France and Somerset, England.
In the past several years, she has visited Bhutan (near Nepal and Tibet), China, Scotland, England and Italy, as well as Utah and California. This summer she plans to drive cross-country for the second time, to visit family members along the west coast and sightsee along the way.
“I travel because I am always curious about what’s around the corner or over the next hill. I have an enormous curiosity about things, especially places that have not become part of the general, homogenized, western culture,” said Manookian.
