Life After Death
Some seniors, especially women, who have recently lost their spouses report feeling stronger and more confident after their losses. So says recent research, which helps prove that, for the living, there is life after death. Many of the women who expected their lives to fall apart after the deaths of their spouses indicated that they found themselves able to manage hurdles that they thought they probably could never manage alone. In general, widowed women were more likely than men to say they had improved since their spouses’ deaths, that they were stronger as a result of the experience, that they were better able to manage tasks and responsibilities, and that they had grown in self-confidence.
Women’s resilience has often been charted-perhaps it’s because they receive so much practice in supporting their families that they have this capacity.
