The Klemperer Trio will play chamber music of the 19th and 20th centuries at The Theatre in Little Washington on Saturday, April 26, at 8 p.m.
Over the last 12 years, The Theatre has become an established venue for chamber music of the earlier classical period.
Now audiences will have the opportunity to hear music of the Romantic age and beyond with which they are likely to be less familiar, played by an outstanding international trio not heard here previously.
The concert program comprises the German composer Felix Mendelssohn’s Trio in D minor composed in 1839 (which Schumann called ‘the most brilliant trio of the present day* and which he predicted “will still give pleasure to our grand children and great grand children*); the Russian composer Anthony Stepanovich Arensky’s TVio, also in D minor, composed in 1907; and the TVio written in 1985 by the black American composer Adolphus Hailstork.
Hailstork has written many works for chorus, chamber ensemble and orchestra— the last being performed by major orchestras in Philadelphia, Chicago and New York and conducted by leading conductors such as James de Priest, DaniehRarenboim and Kurt Masur.
Currently, Hailstork is Eminent Scholar and Professor of Music at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
Formed in 1980, the Klemperer TVio has performed to critical acclaim in the U. S. and Europe.
