1 his put Conner in the finals facing Kevin Switzer from New Jersey. Switzer had pinned each of his opponents in the first period to advance to the finals. A large crowd gathered to watch these two fine young wrestlers square off for the national championship.
Switzer was a little too strong and fast for Conner and led 5-0 halfway through at the first period. The clock was slopped for an injury to Conner’s left shoulder. Wrestling started back with Conner in the down position. Conner scored his first points of the match on a reversal only to have Switzer record a reversal as time ran out in the period with the score 7-2.
