If they were owned by persons who retire and move to the county, they would become the legal residence and their owners would become part of the population of the county.
The increase in the older age group (age 65 years and older) that we see is to be expected, because the length of life is increasing here in the county, as it is nationwide.
According to the census, there were 6,983 people who were residents of the county in 2000. This data only includes people whose legal residence was in the county.
Of these residents, 5.1 percent were preschool children (age 0-4 years); 19.2 percent were school-age children (age 519 years); 30 percent were young adults (age 20-44 years); 31.8 percent were middle-aged adults (age 45-64 years); and 13.8 percent were older-aged adults (age 65 years and older).
