With this tradition, children from all over Virginia look forward to this one very special evening.
Each year about this time, Special Love—an organization started in 1983 in Winchester by parents to honor their daughter who they lost to this disease—holds a week-long can',, of summer fun for children with cancer.
Camp Fantastic, held Aug. 19 on the spacious grounds of the 4-H Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Front Royal, provides these young patients with an opportunity to “step back from the seriousness of their disease and enjoy the bonds of friendship with other children who share similar experiences,” according to Special Love’s literature.
At Camp Fantastic there are classes, various kinds of recreation (including swimming and hiking), campfires and other exciting activities for these seven to 17-year-old
