In other discussion, the public addressed concern over the seemingly dead lighting ordinance which Bob Lander, president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection said was sent before the Board of Supervisors nearly two years ago.
Irwin referred to the supervisors’ lack of action on the matter as an insult to the commission. Commission member A1 Henry disagreed with this.
“In terms of the lighting ordinance, we did our job,” Henry said. He added that if residents are concerned about the issue they should talk with their supervisors and urge them to address the issue, and even “stand on their front porches,” if need be.
In other discussion representative Jennifer Matthews updated the commission on a committee which had been created to investigate the formation of rural and village historic districts. She said the committee had worked to gather data and that one of the next steps was to inform the involved communities.
“We need to follow through with this,” she said.
In other action the commission discussed the next step in revisions to the County’s Comprehensive Plan. Chairman Tom Junk said next month’s meeting will include a round table discussion and asked that members come prepared with a list of concerns from their districts.
McCarthy added that residents who are preparing documents for consideration for the new plan should have them completed by next month.
