As Labor Day approaches signaling the traditional end of summer activities, Virginia State Police urge all motorists to exercise extra caution and drive safely and buckle up.
The holiday period will begin Friday, Aug. 29 and end midnight on Sept. 1.
Last year, the number of people killed in motor vehicle crashes nationwide rose 1.5 percent, and most vehicle occupants who died were not buckled up, according to updated statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
