Two motorcyclists out for a Sunday afternoon ride crashed virtually head on less than two miles from the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park on Route 211 West, ejecting both drivers and killing one of them.
The area where the crash occurred, one and three-fourths miles from Thornton Gap on the Rappahannock side, has become a popular one for motorcyclists who read about its twists and curves on web sites that lure them there from across the country on weekends.
Killed in the crash was John William Aoskosztolnik, 33, of Fairfax Station, who was driving a 2001 Honda motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at Fauquier Hospital.
State police said Aoskosztolnik was heading west on Route 211 uj. the mountain in the far right lane As he approached a curve, another motorcycle heading down • the mountain crossed the double line and struck Aoskosztolnik "almost head on. Both front tires were looking. at each other," said Sgt. Gar' Settle of the Virginia State Police
The 2002 Yamaha motorcycle that crossed the double line w;idrivdh by Jason Weems, 32, Philadelphia, '.state police said Weems, who suffered sevt’ injuries, was flown by helicopter : NOVA Hospital in Fairfax.

Traffic was stopped for about an hour in both directions, said Settle.
There were 150 to 200 people who came out of their cars as. onlookers and also to help. Tin accident occurred a little after 12 noon this past Sunday at 4.6 miles west of Route 667, which is the last state road before the entrance to the park.
Total estimated damages for both motorcycles is $20,000, said
