ter fiddler who lived along the New' River in Glen Lyn, Va.. and was then in his eighties. Jabbour was a founding member of “The Hollow Rock String Band,” whose 1968 recording of traditional dance tunes has recently been reissued as a compact disc. He taught the band a repertory of old-time fiddle tunes, and the Hollow' Rock String Band formed an important link in the instrumental folk music revival of the 1960s.
In 1969 Jabbour became head of the Archive of Folk Song (now the Archive of Folk Culture) at the Library of Congress and, in 1976, he was appointed director of the American Folklife Center at the library, continuing in that position for 23 years. The Center’s Archive of Folk Culture is the principal repository for field documentation of American folklore and folklife and contains important holdings from all the major regions of the world.
Since his retirement in 1999 from federal service, Jabbour has resumed playing the fiddle at frequent public appearances, and often combines these performances with talks on topics related to folklore and folklife, folk music and cultural
