Historical Society picnic
The Rappahannock Historical Society will hold its annual meeting and picnic on Sunday, Oct. 5 at the home of Col. John Bourgeois on Hunters Road (Route 621) in Tiger Valley from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The meeting is open to all members and prospective members. Bring a chair, a covered dish and a recipe of your covered dish that could be included in the society’s upcoming cookbook, “The Bounty of the County.” For directions, call 675-1163.
Berry family reunion
The family of James Adrian and Bertha Ellen Clark Berry would like to invite family and friends to their annual family reunion Sunday, Oct. 5 at Rappahannock Park on Route 211 in Washington. Bring a covered dish and join in the reunion. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.
Local Democratic meeting
Everyone is invited to the last meeting of the local Rappahannock County Democratic Committee before the November elections. Sheriff Sherertz rally
The public is invited to meet with Larry Sherertz, incumbent candidate for Sheriff of Rappahannock County, at an informal gathering on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Flint Hill Fire Hall from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sherertz will meet with attendees, discuss the agenda and answer questions. Refreshments will be served.
Equitation Clinic
Sacred Springs Farm, breeders of Lusitano horses in Flint Hill, will offer an Equitation Clinic featuring Olympic rider Helene Arianoff of Belgium on Oct. 9-12. It is open to riders of all disciplines and levels, from beginner to very advanced. Arianoff, an internationally recognized rider and trainer, is the former Director of the School of Equitation and Dressage in Belgium. Limited openings available. Cantor’s office to visit
Congressman Eric Cantor's Community Outreach Director, Barbara Taylor, will be available at the Rappahannock County Library on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to speak with constituents who need assistance or have problems of a Federal nature.

Headwaters is sponsoring a Candidate Forum on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Public Library to give the community the opportunity to meet each of the candidates who are running for seats on the School Board and to hear their views on issues.

Rappahannock resident Amos Blanton will give a presentation on “Using Straight Vegetable Oil as an Alternative Fuel” at the Rappahannock County Library on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Blanton has converted his VW Jetta Diesel-engine car to run > on filtered, used vegetable oil recycled from Ben Venue’s Ecow restaurant. ’
