“I’ve loved every minute of it. The kids are fantastic. They have so much character,” she said.
Burke, a native of South Central West Virginia, has an equally positive impression of her students.
“The kids have been absolutely wonderful to me. I really like it here. The kids have gone out of their way to be good to me,” she said.
Burke came to Rappahannock after finding a posting on the Department of Education’s webpage, stating that the county was seeking a math teacher. Having recently received a degree in math from Marshall College in West Va., she jumped at the opportunity.
She said she spoke with school officials and within a week moved to Sperryville to take the job.
“I spoke with Ray Tapper and she was outstandingly nice. I thought if anyone else is like her in Rappahannock County then I wanted to be here,” Burke said.
While Burke has not taught before she has volunteered with children in the past and said she has been active in summer Vacation Bible Schools in her home town of Nicholson County, West Va.
