Making evaluation even more complex is the fact that schools must meet or exceed a series of 29 to 35 separate objectives. If they fail even one of these requirements, the Virginia Department of Education said, they are not considered to have achieved AYP.
Chappell intends to discuss his concerns regarding the data involved in this process with state officials prior to the School Board’s next meeting on Oct. 14, at which time he will publicly address the issue.
In the meantime residents should rest assured that this does not affect a school’s accreditation status, which relies solely on the states SOL tests. School officials report that they feel certain last year’s test scores will allow them to attain full accreditation.
