In the stretch
With less than a week to go before Election Day,
candidates and their supporters have a final
opportunity to take their cases to the voters. Now, it’s up to you.
The contested races — the Sheriff’s race in particular — has drawn significant interest. In recent days, s the exchanges have become particularly pointed. But the airing of concerns and criticisms is good, and an important part of the whole process.
Although we would have liked to have seen better attendance, the candidates’ forums in the county have been very effective in getting the individual candidates’ views out in front of the public.
Again, this was most important in the contested races, and those who declined to participate missed an important opportunity to make their priorities known.
To the careful observer, it is apparent that there are no simple answers to the big questions facing Rappahannock: school funding, increasing fire and rescue demands, how to best preserve agriculture and the unique character of our county.
Related issues that our elected leaders will haye to address sooner, rather than later, include deciding iow to resolve the cell tower questions, coming up vith a lighting ordinance, and figuring out a way to iffectively enforce regulations already on the books chat deal with junked vehicles.
One last time: Your vote on Nov. 4 is important to the future of Rappahannock County. Don’t fail to use it.
