county and compassion for its people, and we have remained a peaceful oasis in part because the representatives of law enforcement have been respected for these traits. I have yet to hear the words compassion or respect in association with Mr. Sherertz.
Many years ago I was unfortunate enough to witness violence taking place in a public forum. At the time, John Henry was sheriff, and what could have been a very nasty scene was handled with downright country charm— smooth talking and sound reasoning quickly put control of the situation in the hands of the sheriff and his deputies. I will remember the event with extreme clarity my entire life because of the way it was handled.
Would the same thought processes be used by our current sheriff? From the reports I have received in the last few years I suspect there would have been a SWAT team and teargas involved, both for a lack of compassion and as justification for an outrageous budget.
