Collection Day For Rappahannock County Residents ONLY Household hazardous wastes are those products used in cleaning, home improvement projects, automobile maintenance, yard and garden care and a variety of other tasks. Products which are corrosive (such as alkaline or acids), flammable, reactive or toxic are found in most people’s homes, garages and workshops. Some examples are: • Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides • Mothballs • Oil-based paints and thinners • Furniture strippers and finishing products 1 • Solvents and degreasers • Wood preservatives • Nail polish and paint remover • Oven and drain cleaners • Metal polishers and rust removers • Mildew removers • Swimming pool chemicals • Furniture polishes and waxes • Cleaners, including rug & upholstery cleaners, all purpose cleaners, scouring powders, spot removers and bathroom cleaners Latex or water-based paints are not HHW. They can be hardened or dried and placed with your regular household garbage for disposal.
