It comes as no surprise that
Dave Konick, a longtime member of our community, has provided a thoughtful and accurate report of the financial status of the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s department. His time and diligence should be applauded, for nowhere else have we had the opportunity to absorb these figures.
This increase in budget is outrageous. Is there crime in Rappahannock sufficient to justify this type of expenditure, when individual citizens must craft creative ways of raising money to improve our schools without the benefit of the county budget? How often is a crime committed in Rappahannock County where the victim is separated from $12,125—or for that matter, $1,212.50? Only one, it would seem—paying our county taxes.
