Flint Hill Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company recently completed its 50th annual carnival, which shattered fund-raising records of recent years. The list of those whose contributions made the event such a success is justifiably hefty - and ought to be required reading for all who, while carrying heavy loads as volunteers, occasionally wonder if the community is really behind them.
Nancy Jones outdid herself with truck raffle ticket sales, bringing in approximately $19,000, all while carrying her own heavy load - a task to which she has arisen for years and years. Settle’s Garage once again provided all raffle tickets. Dale Welch donated a fine Angus heifer which brought in hundreds of dollars in raffle ticket sales. Carnival Queens, Raven Baker, Brooklynn Phillips (Little Miss), Kathryn Crawford (Junior Miss), and Sherry Woodward (Honorary Fire Chief 1st runner up), turned in over $11,000 in cow and truck ticket sales, with Raven Baker graciously emerging as 2004 Honorary Fire Chief, having sold tickets worth more than $5,000.
