The Rappahannock County School Board met in a special session on the evening of June 29.

On the agenda were balancing the books and tying off all the accounting loose ends associated with the close of the school year.

Rappahannock Public School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell opened the meeting, and after the customary directive for all present to join in the Pledge of Allegiance, Chappell asked for a moment of silence in memory of Rappahannock icon Carson Johnson.

Chappell then asked the board to make him acting chair, in order to run the meeting in the absence of chairman John W. Mills.

The board voted unanimously to do so without quibble.

Rappahannock County Public School Finance Director Bonnie Hahn provided the board with materials summarizing the final financial details for the school system, and Chappell ran through the various mundane accounting issues before the board.

The board quickly made the routine votes necessary to close out the year.
