In “The G-Connection," Vemikos takes readers on a voyage of discovery. Seeking the cause of these symptoms and ways to prevent them, she began working with young, healthy volunteers lying in bed for weeks on end. She observed the same “aging” symptoms as those seen in astronauts. Exercise helped but was not the whole answer. In research done with astronauts, volunteers, and the elderly, Vemikos developed her theory that many changes that come with age are not due to simply growing older, but most likely are the result of forgetting to use gravity and adopting a lifestyle that uses this force less and less over many years.

Vemikos is well known throughout the scientific community. In addition to her work with NASA, she was an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Ohio State University Medical School. Trained in London, Dr. Vemikos held academic appointments at Stanford University, Wright State University School of Medicine, and was a visiting professor at the University of London. She has published over 200 scientific papers and reviews, holds three patents, has served on editorial boards of scientific journals and was associate editor of Pharmacological Review's. She has received numerous awards, including NASA’s Exceptional Scientific Award, is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics and a Fellow of the World Economic Forum.

“Her intricate knowledge of these fields and her lifetime involvement with NASA make her ideally qualified to write this book for the lay reader with an inquiring mind”, said astronaut and Senator John Glenn in the foreword of the book.
