a few liberal justices on the U.S. Supreme Court could so easily change the meaning of the Constitution.
In its decision Kelo v. City of New London, the Supreme Court voted to allow a Connecticut city to condemn private homes in order to make way for an office complex. Essentially, the Court interpreted “public use” to mean anything that could be construed to be a public benefit, such as a greater tax base.
The Court, however, did leave to the states the ability to place further restrictions on the exercise of eminent domain by local governments. Next January, I will support legislation which will reaffirm the true meaning of “public use” and which will prevent government in Virginia from
