Monica Worth, an F.T. Valley resident and president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, talked about the relevance of having another approved conference center across the road at Montpelier, which is owned by Roger and Sophie Scruton.
“Anything granted under this application is not in parody with the Scruton grant; it's in addition to it," Worth said. “Zoning also regulates activity that grows in impact as additional permits are granted. A liquor license granted to one restaurant on a block does not give any other restaurant on the saihe block or in the same town the right to its own license. In fact, it tends to create a tougher environment for acceptance."

The seven people that stood up to support Flptcher’s application said it is a lowimpact way to make money on a farm that has become unsustainable. They added that the county needs to allow secondary uses on farms or large landowners will not be able to afford to keep the land undeveloped.
“Everybody shows concern about the beauty of the F.T. Valley. Well, this is the perfect way to preserve the F.T. Valley." said Peter Hitchen, who lives on Fletcher’s Mill Road. “I think it would bo a true tragedy if it isn’t allow ed.”
Amissville resident Bill Anderson disagreed with claims that a conference center at the farm would harm property values in the FT. Valley.
“Graves Mountain Lodge has had no effect on property values and has been an asset to Madison County," Anderson said. “Marriott has the Marriott Ranch in Fauquier County. I don’t think it has had any effect on anyone’s property values. There are several others, there’s Fauquier Country Club. Some of the nicest places to live are around that."
