and I got the job,” Foster remembers, "She was the only one he called. She was an excellent teacher and a very nice person.”
When Brown retired in February 1972, Foster was appointed to finish his term. She has been elected to the office for. her subsequent fouryear terms, but has run unopposed each time.
“I've been here ever since [1962]. I like it,” she says. “But it's changed. ... It's computerized. That was hard to get used to, because I never had computers when I went to school, and I'm still learning.”
Foster is a life-long resident of Rappahannock. She was born in Sperryville in March 1937 and her family moved to property on Fodderstack Road in December of that year.
Foster grew up at the house on Fodderstack and she graduated from Washington School in 1956 She now lives in the Town of Washington, but the family still owns her childhood home and her sister lives there now Her mother. Sally, is still alive at 91 and resides in a nursing home in
