On Saturday, February 2, the Statesmen of Jazz will bring Maunce Hines, star of stage, screen and television, choreographer, dancer, and singer, to the Theatre at Washington, Virginia,’ with a lineup that includes Frank Owens, on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass and Chuck Redd on drums. The concert begins at 8 p.m.
Maunce Hines' long and illustrious career includes a Tony Award nomination as Best Actor in a Musical for his Broadway show “Uptown ... It’s Hot!” As a youngster, he performed in New York, Las Vegas and Europe and made numerous television appearances with his brother, Greg, and their father as “Hines, Hint's and Dad”. He has toured in Guys and Dolls, danced in the musical Eubie!, and starred as Jelly Roll Morton on tour in Jelly’s Last Jam. He has directed for Radio City Music Hall, directed and choreographed the musical Havana Night in Cuba and The Red Shot's in Santo Domingo. And these are just a few illustrations from a busy, creative, and productive professional life.
For the concert at the Theatre, Mr. Hines will sing music from his many discs, including his recent Arlxirs Records CD, “To Nat King Cole with Love”, music from Broadway, and more.
