With the second-place finish, Rappahannock County qualified for the Region B tournament for the second consecutive year. The regional tournament is Feb. 2 at Luray High School. Match play begins at noon.
The Panthers entered the district tournament as the No. 2 seed behind George Mason, the defending state champion. After an opening round bye, Rappahannock County rolled to a 270-115 win over Clarke County.
The win set up the first meeting of the day with the Mustangs, who jumped out to an early lead and scored a 230155 win over Rappahannock County.
The Scholastic Bowl tournament is double elimination. With each match, there are two rounds of 15 tossup questions and a round of 10 directed questions. A team scores 10 points for a correct answer. If one teammate interrupts as the question is read and guesses incorrectly, his team loses five points.
